Answers of your questions on Diabetes Report.

Answers of your questions on Diabetes Report.

Who is sponsoring this important scientific report?

This is very important question but answer is not much encouraging. Like my other works related to documentation of Traditional Medicinal Knowledge, I am preparing this report from my own expenses. From collection of information to processing and writing, I have yet not taken any financial help from anyone.

Why you are not writing it in Hindi or other regional languages?

My wish was to write this report in Hindi but at that time I was not aware how to type Hindi in computer. Now I have started it but still speed is very slow. If I am not wrong, Ecoport is permitting it because it is in English. Also this report contains lots of technical words. Hindi translation of these words is difficult job. Now many English to Hindi translation tools are available on-line. I am sure that with these tools, anyone can translate this report in major languages.

How you manage your health during heavy work on report?

Its really tedious job to write continuously and prepare Interactive Tables. I prefer to remain free from tension. During evening, I play Table Tennis and frequently visit to forests for surveys just for break.

At present on what aspect you are focusing?

At present I am writing chapter on Complicated Cases of Diabetes. Our Traditional Healers have in depth Traditional Knowledge on this aspect. They use complicated herbal formulations. In many formulations hundreds of herbs are used. There is specific method for selection of every potential herb in forest. They follow it sincerely. I have tried to document these details in its original form. Also I added my views and herbal formulations developed by me in it. In early days, while treatment members of Royal members and rich natives, Traditional Healers were working in form of team. Patients were having large number of caretakers. Besides internal remedies, external remedies were also given round the clock; even when patients were in deep sleep. In Modern days it is not much feasible to practice this knowledge. We are not having such rich patients as well as expert Healers but we are fortunate that we still have senior Healers who have learnt these methods from their forefathers. The said chapter in this report is covering all these details.

What are your future plans?

After completing this scientific report, my plan is to prepare report on Traditional Medicinal Knowledge related to Heart diseases and cancer. Also there is plan to prepare report on Traditional medicinal knowledge for healthy living. The reports on Heart diseases and cancer are having more information than Diabetes report.

Why report is in code words?

In order to keep this report safe from biopiracy I have written it in code words. It’s next to impossible to break these codes. After completion of report, I will proceed forward as per guidelines of National Biodiversity Authorities. I am thankful to Ecoport that they allowed me to upload this report in code words.

Is this report useful for common readers?

I have written this report in very simple words. Even layman can understand it without any problem. This report has over 80,000 pictures and also commentaries. Once it is on-line with all decodes it will become key document for the researchers as well as patients around the world. I am against self-medication. That is why I am not much in favor of opening it for everyone. For experts and researchers with specific purpose as per guidelines of NBA, there is plan to give access to this report.

Any Indian database showed interest in accommodating this report?
Unfortunately not. No one approached me. I publicize this report through different e-groups and requested members to suggest Indian database to accommodate this ever increasing report but got no response. I have added over 650,000 pages in Ecoport with thousands of pictures. Now it seems that this contribution is creating problem in normal functioning of database. That is why I have suspended uploading for a while. Over 500,000 pages are with me. This report is having lots of keywords in each table. These keywords were generating millions of links in database and as result making it very slow. Ecoport has removed these keywords for a time being. They truly claim that at present none of the databases in the world is able to handle such report with much Interactive Tables as well as keywords. After adding over one million pages in this report I have yet not reached up to half way. It seems that millions of new pages will come in existence in near future. After adding this report, I am not sure whether Ecoport will be in position to handle new reports or not? That is why I am searching new databases. I have started putting parts of cancer report in off-line database but it is in trial phase.

Tell us something about Traditional Allelopathic knowledge.
Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge is an integral part of Traditional Healing in Indian state Chhattisgarh. Although the Healers of young generation take less interest in it but they know that application of plant extracts and leachate in specific herbs before collections helps in enriching it with medicinal properties. In my contributions at Botanical.com I have uploaded extended summaries of over 7500 research articles based on Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge in Chhattisgarh. This report is having more information with much detail on this aspect. In chapters of Methi (Fenugreek), I have mentioned tens of methods to grow it especially for treatment of Diabetes. From seed treatment to maturity Traditional Healers use specific extracts and leachate to enrich Methi for specific medicinal properties. Such important knowledge is coming in front of world community for the first time through this report.

In terms of print outs how many pages have been added so far in this report?

As mentioned earlier over 650,000 pages are on-line at Ecoport and 500,000 pages are with me. I am continuously working on this report and investing 12-14 hours daily on it. I feel that so many pages in this report are important but the unique knowledge it contains is more important.

How Ecoport helped in this report?
Initially when I added 3000 Interactive Tables in Ecoport, Ecoport supervisor suggested me to decode it, so that it can become useful for everyone. I assured him that after completing this report, I will open it for readers as per guidelines of NBA. Now I have added over 82,000 tables. Ecoport is extending full support. As mentioned earlier, addition of pages in bulk slowed Ecoport many times. Every time it has broken my rhythm but Ecoport team has done their best to keep the system in best pace. We have harsh interactions many times but ignoring it, we continued our association for the sake of world community. This association is still on. I am thankful to Ecoport for giving me space to present my contributions. When you say that your report is having 650,000 pages now, no one will believe you but when you give links to these pages as proof, everyone will appreciate it. It is general rule in this world.

One million pages on Type II Diabetes are really incredible. Are you writing everything in detail?

As far as possible. By adding Traditional Knowledge related to mere 220 complicated herbal formulations report has crossed over one million pages. There are thousands of such formulations. I am afraid that if I write details about all, it will take my entire life to complete this report. Many experts suggested the addition of useful formulations only but every formulation is useful and important for me. I am thinking on this issue and try to develop some shortcut.

What responses you are getting from the world community?

I have yet not popularized this report through media. As Ecoport is not searchable through search engines, very few people are aware of it. As mentioned earlier, I posted information about it to different e-groups. From these groups, I received mixed responses. Many were interested in getting decodes. Many appreciated it. As this report is coming from remote place of the world it is not attracting much attention. I have requested Ecoport many times to allow search crawlers but it seems that they are not interested in this way of knowledge sharing.

What is your message to young researchers interested in such work?

My message to them is that if you decide any thing once, no can stop you achieving the target. But documentation of Traditional Knowledge is not a glamorous field like IT, at least at present. Governments are not promoting this important branch of science. Most of the Traditional Knowledge Databases are mere eye wash. Few people have captured this field especially in India and investing millions for nothing. My work is a message to them that if one person can contribute this much without financial help then if public’s money is utilized in proper way and instead of giving it to one or two organizations, it is distributed to our young researchers working in remote areas, India can be a leader in this field and extend help to millions of patients around the world.

Are medicinal insects a part of this report?

Yes. I have written a lot on medicinal insects as well as mites and its role in treatment of Diabetes by Traditional Healers. It seems that this knowledge is endless. Medicinal insects and mites are used both internally as well as externally. I have observed that forest insects and mites are more commonly used by them. I have tried to mention scientific names but in many cases I have just added pictures and local names.

Is report having pictures of herbs?
Over 80,000 pictures are part of this report. I have added over 33,000 pictures so far. Besides pictures of herbs I am adding pictures of Traditional Healers as well as Healing methods.

How financial support at this stage will make this report more useful?

Lack of financial support is main constraint in this report. It limits the surveys and every time I have to return back as daily budget is over. I am working in this report since decade. I was not having good camera. Hence I missed to take pictures of important Healing methods. Now I want to recreate the scenes with the help of model and add it in report in order to make it more useful. I have met thousands of Healers. I want to visit to them again in order to gather more information specially for findings related to recently conducted experiments.

When this report will be completed?

I am expecting that it will be over till end of year 2010. But it is also true that this report will never end. I will add new information throughout my life and after me coming researchers will contribute. In this way it is never ending process.

Why you have not waited for financial support for this huge task?

In general, organizations are given financial support, individuals are not. In India there is much corruption in getting fund. As this report is related to Traditional Medicinal Knowledge in case of financial, I have to give a copy of report to sponsors with decodes. Once a reputed Indian organization offered me to add all my works in their database in few thousand rupees and forget it. The database was not safe and also organization was not ready to keep this knowledge as knowledge collected by me, I refused their proposal. That is why I decided to start work on this report instead of waiting for finance.

What is special in this report for Indian farmers?

In near future after releasing of this report when the world community will understand the importance of Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge Indian farmers will start using it in commercial production of medicinal and aromatic crops. At present Methi is cultivated with the help of standard method in which agrochemicals are used. As mentioned earlier that this report is having information about tens of methods of Methi cultivation. If Traditional healers will be allowed to prepare herbal formulations based on this report in bulk, farmers help will be required to raise it by using Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge. In this way there is much for Indian farmers in this report.

How you are keeping the safe copies of this report with you?
Earlier I was keeping the print outs but keeping one million pages is expensive job. That why I am keeping it with the help of CDs and DVDs.

In general, one standard Interactive Table as part of health schedule, contains what types of information?
In general, Interactive Tables give information like how to select potential herbs, best time of its collection, its treatment with Traditional Allelopathic Knowledge in order to enrich it with medicinal properties, best location for its collection, method of collection, method of its addition in herbal formulations, method of storage, method of administration and its effects on patients. It also gives details whether this formulation is mentioned in ancient literatures or not? Medium through which it is given, whether patients are informed about formulation or not, home remedies are allowed with this formulation or not, whether healers collect all herbs by themselves or depend on herb traders and local shops, how many versions of formulations exist, whether care takers informed about formulation, specific diseases in which patients are not allowed to take specific herbs etc. It also gives information about doses.

How many herbs have been mentioned as Diabetes herbs in the report?

Thousands of herbs and herbal formulations.

Are you seeking any protection or security from authorities?

I am living and working with my people. There is no such requirement at this stage.

Why you have not published this report as research paper?

Not as research paper but it can be published as book. I have bitter experience in publishing research findings through research journals. I have published over 112 research papers/book chapters in journals of national and international repute. In general these journals don’t publish original work. They perform lot of editing and reviewers force for compression of information. I feel that knowledge should be documented in its natural form without any editing. May be the information reviewers are deleting is of less importance for them but who knows that in future it can save thousands of lives. I tried to publish some research papers based on this report but by seeing the professional attitude I took the papers back. It is bitter truth that at present ancient knowledge is contributing more towards healthy living than modern knowledge and ancient knowledge was not written in way the commercial academic journals adopt these days. Many International journals asked for page charges. Still I am ready to publish this report if any publisher will come forward to publish it in its original form. But publishing over one million pages in original form is difficult task.

How you meet the expenses of computer and operators?

In order to save these expenses I am doing this entire task by my own expenses.
